Case study 3 - Mrs Smith and Ellie May

April 2009

Mrs Smith has owned Ellie May, a 15.2hh, 25 year old mare for nearly twenty years. Having continued illness cover from Petplan Equine, Mrs Smith had the confidence she needed when Ellie May needed veterinary attention in 2009. Mrs Smith comments "It's brilliant that Petplan Equine allow you to continue the full insurance policy until your horse is 25, we wouldn't have had cover otherwise"

Ellie May developed a swelling under her tummy and Mrs Smith's vet advised it could be chronic liver failure. Tests confirmed that Ellie May had an abnormally high level of enzymes in her blood and would need to start on a strict diet. Luckily the change in diet was successful and although Ellie May's condition needs to be monitored she has made a good recovery.

"I was very worried about Ellie May, she is part of the family and we would do anything for her. Having the extra cover from Petplan Equine meant we didn't need to worry about the costs as well as Ellie May's recovery. Petplan Equine has always offered a brilliant straight forward service."
